Welcome to Mrs. Partin's Beehive
Welcome to Mrs. Partin's Beehive! I am excited to help students grow as mathematicians, problem-solvers, and responsible young adults. Our classroom is built on hard work, kindness, perseverance, and the belief that every student can succeed in mathematics.
Throughout the year, students will engage in hands-on activities, collaborative learning, real-world problem solving, and meaningful discussions that help make math both understandable and enjoyable.
Sixth Grade Math
Sixth grade students build a strong mathematical foundation as they transition into middle school mathematics. Topics include:
- Understanding the World Around Us Through Statistics
- Ratios and Rates
- Understand and Use Percentages
- Solve Area, Surface Area, and Volume Problems
- Numerical and Algebraic Expressions
- Integers, Rational Numbers, and the Coordinate Plane
- Equations and Inequalities
- Relationships Between Two Variables
Students will develop confidence in their mathematical abilities while learning to explain their thinking and apply concepts to real-life situations.
Seventh Grade Math
Seventh grade mathematics focuses on strengthening problem-solving skills and making connections between mathematics and everyday life. Topics include:
- Solve Problems Involving Geometry
- Proportional Relationships
- Solve Problems Involving Percentages
- Sampling and Statistics
- Solve Problems Involving Operations with Integers and Rational
- Numbers
- Work with Linear Expressions
- Solve Problems Involving Equations and Inequalities
- Probability
Students will continue to develop independence and mathematical reasoning as they tackle increasingly complex problems.
Eighth Grade Math
Eighth grade mathematics prepares students for Algebra and higher level mathematics courses. Topics include:
- Congruence and Similarity
- Linear Relationships and Equations
- Understand and Analyze Functions
- Patterns of Association
- Angles, Triangles, and the Pythagorean Theorem
- Volume
- Systems of Linear Equations
- Irrational Numbers, Exponents and Scientific Notation
Students will build critical thinking skills and deepen their understanding of mathematical concepts as they prepare for high school mathematics.
The Beehive Economy
Our classroom operates using a real-world classroom economy system designed to teach responsibility, financial literacy, and important life skills.
Each student will have the opportunity to apply for classroom jobs and earn classroom money through hard work, responsibility, participation, and positive behavior. Students will learn how to manage their earnings by paying classroom expenses, budgeting their money, and making financial decisions.
Students may:
- Apply for classroom jobs
- Earn classroom money
- Pay classroom bills and expenses
- Save and budget their earnings
- Purchase items and privileges from the classroom store
- Earn bonuses for leadership, kindness, and responsibility
Possible classroom jobs include:
- Banker
- Technology Assistant
- Supply Manager
- Attendance Helper
- Classroom Ambassador
- Materials Manager
- Board Manager
The classroom economy provides students with valuable real-world experiences while helping them develop responsibility, organization, and decision-making skills.
Classroom Store & Financial Responsibility
Students will have opportunities throughout the year to shop at our classroom store using the money they earn. Items may include:
- School supplies
- Homework passes
- Flexible seating opportunities
- Small prizes
- Classroom privileges
- Snacks and treats
- Special experiences and rewards
Just like in the real world, students are also responsible for managing their finances. While positive behavior, responsibility, and hard work are rewarded, negative behaviors may result in fines. Examples may include:
- Missing assignments
- Unpreparedness for class
- Off-task behavior
- Inappropriate use of materials or technology
- Disrespectful behavior
- Failure to complete classroom responsibilities
The goal of these fines is not punishment, but rather to help students understand accountability, responsibility, and the real-world consequences of choices. Students are always encouraged to make positive decisions, earn back money through responsible behavior, and learn valuable financial and life skills.
Thank you for visiting Mrs. Partin's Beehive. I look forward to partnering with families to help every student grow, succeed, and develop into confident Mathematicians!
